Homemade Watercolors {Snow day}

I Absolutely love being a mother. I’m sure any mother can say that. Being a mother is my perfectly perfect explanation for talking to myself, forgetting things, being late and my favorite-making memories.

Memories.

My Boys are small, just at the peak of childhood. Yup these are the years they’ll remember most…..and the time you told them they could have that toy in the store just so they can be quiet. Oh. It’s coming. LOL!

What I love most about my kids? They are artsy. Yes! They love to paint and make messes. They love to make music, draw and create.  AHHH what more can an artsy momma ask for?

It is perfectly fulfilling for a child to say, “Mommy!!! I made this!”

So in my quest to find more family time and less T.V. time, I stumbled upon the world-wide web and I found a recipe for homemade watercolors. To my surprise, everything that we needed was in momma’s cubbard….errrr cupboard.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • White Distilled Vinegar
  • Cornstarch
  • Baking soda
  • Corn Syrup
  • Food Coloring
  • Container to house it all (We used egg cartons)

Mix 3tbsp of vinegar, 3tbsp of cornstarch, 3tbsp of baking soda, 1 1/2tsp of corn syrup and a few drops of food coloring. Whisk it around with a toothpick and VOILA!

A few months back we made some baking soda clay, shaped it into these crackling bowls and let them dry for a few days. The boys wanted to paint them and put them on their dressers.

I was so proud of them when they were done. There is so much stuff to do when you’ve got boys….I can’t forget our WWE wrestling matches. Who do you think wins?

Yea. Of course I do.
